San Benito Workforce

Cameron County’s population grew by 28.9% from 1990 to 2000, and has a relatively youthful population with 37% being under 20 years of age. The median age is 29.1, and the state average is 32.3. There is also a growing population of those aged 65-plus. Contributing factors are Winter Texans who visit the area and retirees who decide to relocate here permanently.

An active county Workforce Center in San Benito bridges the gap between businesses and their potential employees for focusing on what businesses require: a demand-side approach to addressing specific needs of Cameron County businesses to recruit, train and retain skilled employees.

  • The center insures that employers who are expanding, relocating, training or retraining skilled employees know all the advantages of doing business in Cameron County. Trained workforce personnel assist in filling an existing employer’s requirements for expanding business, or for those new to the city.
  • The Workforce Center links businesses to a large diverse pool of qualified job seekers.
  • The Welfare Work program works aggressively to pursue quality partnerships to assist in attracting quality workers.
  • The center can help dislocated workers with on-site programs, emergency assistance and job training.
